ROTGS signals rebirth for AOC
Funcom has polished their little gem in the rough so much, it is astounding how far they have come. AOC at release was a buggy, resource hogging, shallow mess. But just like Funcom did with Anarchy Online which also launched like a lamb and turned into a lion; Conan is practicaly a new game. The release of ROTGS is the offical trumpet call for anyone who was waiting to try AOC. Conan is now ready. The DX10 graphics are amazing and much streamlined. The alternate advancement system works well and was a brilliant move to keep old world content from being outdated. The music is probably the best soundtrack in any MMORPG ever. The new zones are wide open and give you a feeling of freedom that the original areas might have lacked. I'm not really sure what else to say, I don't want to harp on about every little thing or I'd sound like some company shill. Basically if your looking for a dark and gritty low fantasy MMO full of guts and glory, give AOC a try. IF you much prefer...

New Player, Loving It
I play both World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online, as a very casual player.I passed up Age of Conan when it first came out two years ago because I was just getting into LotRO, and then I read about the initial AoC problems.But when Rise of the Godlslayer came out I decided to try it out, looking for a change of pace.The game installed with no problems and I have not experienced a single crash in playing probably 20 hours now. Created a bear shaman and leveled all the way thru Tortage and am now in Cimmeria, level 27. Great, great fun so far!There seem to be a lot of people on but its not crowded, and the players are pretty friendly so far. I have not done any instances yet or PvP, but I have explored a bit and fought lots of monsters, with nary a game glitch in sight. I think I will stick with it.If you were, like me, tempted to play Age of Conan earlier but decided not to after the initial launch, I'd say give...

AoC has improved dramatically
I played at launch. There were multiple game breaking issues. I quit after 2 months.I've been reading a lot of positive reviews lately so I decided to buy the expansion and give AoC another chance after being away for nearly 2 years. I am very impressed. Nearly all of the technical issues and bugs present in 2008 have been fixed. In 3 weeks of play so far, I have not experienced a single crash to desktop. The game runs smoothly on the highest video settings on my mid level computer and graphics card.Probably the biggest gripe of players in 2008 was the overall lack of content for those leveling from the 50's upward. There was also a distinct lack of content for those who reached 80 since city sieges were broken at the beginning and very buggy once they got them working. Bleh - Nothing Special, Let Me Explain
You may not agree with my review but for those of you who want an honest and objective look into it please stick around.There are several things wrong with this game that make it generally not quite as great as it could have been.These issues are: easy of leveling, tedious collection styled quests, massive empty zones, problems with resource skill gathering, lack of voice content, few zones, lack of a decent travel system, ease of travel between starter cities, darkness, generally bland armor, dumb AI, lack of a good faction system, guild creation, instance zones, and weapon selection.I probably have heated a few of you up so feel free to respond to my comments if you disagree but I'm honestly hoping some of these issues are addressed within the next few months as the game begins to grow stronger.Ease of Leveling:One of the most unique aspects of the game, I believe, is the ease of leveling I've found within it. Firmly rooted in the savage, bloody, violent and sexy Hyborian universe, players can expect a graphically beautiful game blended with gritty gameplay that is true to both the barbarian hero from Howard?s writings and the Schwarzenegger influenced version from books, movies and comics.

Available Cultures and Classes
Although Age of Conan contains a wide range of peoples, its playable cultures are currently limited to Aquilonians, Cimmerians, and Stygians. Within each of these players can choose from a selection of archetypal character classes, although available classes and subsequent subclasses are not necessarily the same within each culture. For example, archetypal classes for Aquilonians and Cimmerians are Rogue, Priest and Soldier, while Stygians are represented by Rogue, Priest and Mage. Further differences exist within subclasses for each. See the basic breakdown of all three cultures below:

Aquilonians: Internally divided, but united against their barbarian neighbors, the Aquilonians live lives on the edge. Their kingdom, with its prosperous cities, enlightened culture and religious freedom, is known as the "Flower of the West." Yet for all this and despite the power of King, Conan I, it is a land where culture clashes and unrest are always a threat.

Cimmerians: As the Hyborian Age comes to an end the northern barbarian clans of the Cimmerians know that the end of their time is drawing near too. King Conan I of Aquilonia is himself a Cimmerian, though not typical of his people. Although his life has been filled with wanderlust, his Kin care nothing for what occurs outside their clan territories.

Stygians: Masters of the magical arts and ruled by their consuming worship of the serpent-god Set, the Stygians excel at occult and diabolic lore. They learned long ago that true power lies in knowledge and in pacts with dark powers. This single-mindedness has allowed them become the only culture to harness the secrets of the Mage class and power that comes with it.

Modes Singleplayer as well as Multiplayer
Unlike most MMORPGs, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures includes a significant singleplayer experience as well as deep overarching multiplayer gameplay. This is an atypical MMORPG feature, but one that has a purpose. Players enter the game as a lowly galley slave with no memory of his/her past, and over the first five to 20 levels of singleplayer action build the skills necessary to survive in the game's multiplayer levels. During this time you will traverse a variety of rich environments including jungles, deserts, mountains, valleys, dungeons and cities packed with NPCs, beasts and monsters, before eventually leveling up and moving back to your chosen culture?s homeland. Because the only character-related choices that players have to make at the game?s opening are their looks, clothing and culture, this singleplayer mode is important in deciding what class and subclass to pursue and thus the level of impact your character will have in greater multiplayer portions of the game.

In-game levels 20 and above are strictly multiplayer. 20-40 introduce players to guilds. 40-60 deal with large scale combat. 60-80 have the player interacting with King Conan and levels 80 and up represent end-game play. Here gameplay changes as social aspects of MMORPG gameplay take over on a large scale.

Real-time Combat That Takes Queues from the FPS
Traditionally MMORPGs have utilized a mix of auto and turn-based functionality in their combat systems, but Age of Conan dispenses with that, instead drawing inspiration from FPS/action games. Firmly rooted in the brutality of the Hyborian universe, game developer Funcom has devised an action-based system that not only provides the sense of actually being in the fight, but also requires the player to participate in it. That means no simple targeted attacks. Players can attack and defend from nearly any position in real-time, whether on the ground or atop a mount, while standing still or on the move. It?s a recipe for carnage and one that fits right into the world of Conan.

The combat system in Age of Conan comes in three forms: drunken brawling, mini games like CTF and massive Player vs. Player battles, which lets you engage in siege combat to defend or attack a city. All are easy to learn, but difficult to master, providing hours worth of play and replay value and are the core of this new cutting edge MMORPG.

Must have improved since launch
I am writing this review because I see all the old 2008 reviews which really don't do justice to the bonecrunching, blood and gore awesomeness of this game. I didn't play Age of Conan (AoC) when it came out in 2008 because I was in the middle of my 2 year World of Warcraft (WoW) stint. I have to assume that however messed up AoC was at launch, most of those problems have been fixed because I haven't encountered any of the problems mentioned in the old 2008 reviews. I really enjoyed playing WoW, but after two years I felt that I'd "accomplished" all I wanted to in that game (in terms of PvP, endgame raiding, flying mounts, armor sets, rep grinds, etc.) and I wanted to try something new. I was scared off of AoC last year because of all the bad reviews. But out of sheer curiosity and because it was free, I played AoC's free trial this past summer and found it an amazing game with great content for mature players. I really like this game and I'm looking forward to the expansion Rise...

Excellent music, well made, pleasant to listen to
When I started playing this game, I didn't expect that one of my favorite things about it would be it's music. But I'm here to tell you that the high quality music produced in this album is pleasing to the ear with or without the game it was created for. For anyone that is a fan of instrumental, orchestra style music supplemented with vocals at times, you will enjoy this music no matter if you have played the video game or not.

Extraordinarily powerful music.
The entire album is very eclectic, stirring and powerful. The instrumentals are great, as well as the vocals. I now have this CD in my car. This was the best $9 I've spent in a while.Download it, turn up the volume, and enjoy.I hope word of this music gets outside of the gaming genre, because the artists and composers deserve to have their work truly appreciated by many.

Age of Conan music is great
I began playing this game and loved it from the start. I have the collector's edition and the music was hauntingly beautiful. I played the CD non-stop but did not have the titles to each piece of music. I ordered the MP3 version online and put it on my MP3 player. I listen to the music at work. If you liked the other Conan albums and music you will love this one even if you do not play the game.

Even after all the hype and anticipation I had no idea what to expect when my Age of Conan Game Card arrived. Nestled in a super-protective DVD case complete with security tape and awaiting my imminent use it laid impatiently on my desk for about a week before I finally sprung it free. As I openned the case, there it was in all its splendor, made of what seemed to be recycled lottery ticket card-stock and emblazoned with a alpha-numeric code number. Yeah!! It's just a game card folks. 60 days worth of game time. Nothing more.

60 Day Game Time Cards that work!
Well, I've been playing AoC off and on now since a little after Beta and have all the Expansion Packs.I bought the 2 of the Cards in order to to take advantage of the Free Super Saver Shipping.Went to my Account Page and typed the Codes in and Voila' it added the Game Time..! It works, incl. the Expansion Packs.The Cards shipped quickly, very secured, via shrink wrap in a Box.The ONLY gripe I have with the Cards is that in order to get to the Code you scratch off the Card like a Lottery Ticket...be CAREFULL not to scratch TOO HARD otherwise you will damage the code underneath it!Other than that...no complaints...works as advertised...and ON THE CHEAP !VERY RECOMMENDED !

This would have been a vastly different review, a few months ago
Below is my review of the game; however, I did purchase the Collector's Edition and I have to say that the CE reminds me a lot of the game. Flashy, beautiful on the surface but ultimately lacking. You're basically spending $90 on 5 buddy passes (which requires your friends to use your discs for installation or they have to pay $3 to download the game), an ingame item that only works up until level 40 and didn't really provide a big boost, a really nice artbook, the soundtrack, the artbook and a map. Sounds like a lot, but I had buyers remorse; and it's $10 more expensive than the Warhammer Online CE which included a lot more items...if you're set on purchasing AoC, I would just go with the standard edition.On to the review:The funny thing about expectations is just how much it can ruin or promote a game. Age of Conan is a well-constructed, beautifully-rendered, multi-layered MMORPG that includes features for every playstyle in the genre.For those adventurers who prefer to explore solo, the world is vast, beautiful, and dangerous! In addition to the creatures, beasties and wild humans providing nail-biting combat with a fantastic AI, on two of the server types (FFA (free-for-all) PvP (Player vs. Player) and RP (roleplaying)-PvP), there is the added danger of edge-of-your-seat combat with player characters. There is, of course, a Player vs. Environment (PvE) ruleset on some servers that will allow the more reticent to get their game on in style without the added fear of being ganked.Solo gamers who join AoC will find that all of the classes are solo-friendly to some extent. Beautiful graphics (yes, an upgrade on the computer was necessary in my case) amazing storyline and game play. No lag, and the combat system is fantastic.The Collectors Edition is an amazing package- from the ingame items that can be given to all your characters, not limited to just the first one you have claim them to the package that you receive. The map, I have to admit, I am not certain what I will do with, but it is a nice addition. The score is beautiful and I can't wait to play the cd that they give to hear it all. Age of Conan is a strategic board game in which four kingdoms from the Hyborean age battle it out for dominance over the setting of arguably the first commercial fantasy hero. For Conan fans like myself this is too good a premise to pass up. The imperial conquest portion of the game is well designed and features interesting mechanics. Player actions are dictated by Fate dice that are rolled at the beginning of a round - the players then take turns in clock wise order, choosing which rolled action that would like to perform and removing that die from the pool. Players have their own deck of Kingdom cards which work not unlike those of a Collectible Card Game; the player pays the gold cost of a card to play it on the table and "taps" it (turns the card sideways) to use it.
